Jimmy Page / Black Crowes Certified Gold

The Jimmy Page & the Black Crowes concert document Live At The Greek has been certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America. The award is in recognition of 500,000 copies of the album being shipped to retail locations by TVT Records, following the successful Internet sales and download campaign Musicmaker.com conducted when Live At The Greek was first released a year ago. The retail version of Live At The Greek added previously unavailable bonus material not found on the original, Internet-only version of the album, including rare video footage, exclusive photos, more extensive packaging, and new cover art. Live At The Greek was recorded during the group's final two shows at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles in October 1999. Black Crowes lead singer Chris Robinson told LAUNCH that the success of Live At The Greek stems from the fact that there were no plans to make a live album with Page, which meant the musicians were looser on stage than they otherwise might have been: "When you consciously record something live, it's hard. When you're free to not really think about things, that's when that really clicks on all cylinders. We only had the six shows to really show our stuff, so by the time, like, we got there, we were riding such a high of the vibe and the music, that we didn't even really realize they were taping it. We weren't really even thinking about it." The new Black Crowes album, Lions, will be released in May on V2 Records. -- Darren Davis, Bruce Simon, New York
