Camp for Children with Cancer is looking for Volunteers This Summer! (Charity)
Ongoing Event, Ends 8/6/2006
Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times, a sleep away camp for children with cancer and their families, is looking for volunteers to spend nine days this summer in the mountains above Palm Springs with campers ages 9 - 18. Our recreational programs are staffed by volunteer cabin counselors, activity counselors, and directors who are recruited from college campuses, community organizations, and neighborhoods across California and the nation. Volunteers must be at least 19 years of age. Staff members come from a variety of backgrounds and are carefully chosen through an application and interview process because of their interest and ability to work well with youth.
Each summer over 600 children attend camp in Idyllwild, California during the months of June, July, and August. Although all the campers share a common experience of cancer in their lives, the focus of Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times is to provide: a place to shed the stress of daily life; a place to be accepted and not seen as different; a place to meet others with similar experiences and interests; a place to try new things; a place to return year after year to renew special friendships and make new ones; a place to be a kid.
Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times is located on the pine filled slopes of the San Jacinto Mountains in Southern California. Nestled in the pines at 4500 feet, Camp is approximately two hours from Los Angeles, San Diego and Orange County. To learn more about Camp and this unforgettable volunteer opportunity, go to www.campronaldmcdonald.org.
If you are interested in volunteering, please contact the Assistant Camp Directors, Lisa or Dot, at 310-268-8488 or [email protected] or [email protected].
