The American Academy of Self Defense will present a Kids Safe Seminar on Saturday November 18th form 1:00-3:00p.m.

The community is invited to the Free event, at the American Academy of Self Defense, 3345 Kimber Drive, Newbury Park
It will include information on how to protect you in a fire, flood, or earthquake, how to be internet- safe and how to be safe in the outside world. Healthcare workers, police, fire and safety professionals will discuss how to keep children safe and street smart. They will go over what to expect in an emergency and what steps to take to get out of danger. Street smart tips include helping kids memorize their addresses and phone numbers and teaching them to never talk to strangers or accept food or rides from strangers. Other topics will include gun safety and first aid. The event will include drinks, appetizers and giveaways.

  Boarding House Mentors to Hold Fundraiser   6:00 PM    (Arts and Entertainment)
Location: Agoura Canyon Club
Boarding House Mentors (BHM), the nonprofit organization that brings the "stoke" of surfing and snowboarding to inner city kids, is holding a musical fundraiser and silent auction on November 5th at the Canyon Club in Agoura. Entertainment will include Hal Sparks (of Celebrity Duet and Queer as Folk fame), Triple Scoop (members of Metal Skool), Daize Shayne (former World Longboard Champion and musician), Todd Hannigan (Ventura resident, surfer/musician who wrote and performed title track on Jack Johnson's latest album), Gary Ballen (producer/musician) and Ian Field.

Having concluded its 4th summer surf season at Will Rogers State Beach in Pacific Palisades, Boarding House Mentors is gearing up for its winter snowboard program. More than teaching kids about board sports, Boarding House Mentors unique community environment allows for participant youth to make new friends, encourage each other and learn a new challenging sport that provides a new and unique experience and a positive alternative to the endemic problems facing inner city youth such as gangs, drugs and violence. "

Tickets can be purchased through the Canyon Club www.canyonclub.net, through the Ticketmaster and at the door. The event starts at 6pm.
