Vaccine Protection Program
Our Vaccine Protection Program is our best defense against the diseases that threaten the health of your beloved pets.

For Your Kittens & Cats:

Dr. Shouse recommends that kittens begin their vaccine program at 10 weeks of age; repeat those vaccines again in 4 weeks (14 weeks of age) and receive the rabies vaccine at months (16 weeks of age). All vaccines are then boosted annually for maximum protection.

Distemper - widespread, usually fatal intestinal disease
Rhinotracheitis - highly contagious respiratory disease that can be fatal to kittens
Calcivirus - highly contagious respiratory disease that can be fatal to kittens
Pnumonitis - highly contagious respiratory disease that can cause chronic upper respiratory disease throughout your cat's life
Leukemia - contagious and fatal viral disease similar to AIDS in people
Feline Infectious Peritonitis - contagious viral disease involving blood vessels; infected cats do not survive and there is no effective treatment
Bordatella - causes a contagious respiratory infection
Rabies - always fatal and contagious to people

(In the Ojai Valley, Dr. Shouse recommmends cats receive annual rabies boosters.)


For Your Puppies & Dogs:

Dr. Shouse recommends that puppies begin their vaccine program at 8 weeks of age, repeating those vaccines every 4 weeks through 5 months (20 weeks of age). The first rabies vaccine is given at 4 months (16 weeks of age). All vaccines are then boosted annually for maximum protection. After the first annual booster, the rabies vaccine is then given every 3 years.

Distemper - widespread, usually fatal respiratory and neurological disease
Adenovirus Type 1 - causes infectious hepatitis (liver disease)
Adenovirus Type 2 - causes respiratory infection; one part of kennel cough
Leptospirosis - causes kidney disease
Parainfluenza - causes respiratory infection; another part of kennel cough
Parvovirus - highly contagious intestinal disease, usually fatal
Coronavirus - highly contagious intestinal disease with similar symptoms to parvovirus
Bordatella - causes respiratory infection; another part of kennel cough
Lyme - causes the same disease in dogs as in people, can be very serious
Rabies - always fatal and contagious to people
