Tom Petty's "Companion"
Tom Petty's "Highway Companion" will be in stores on July 25th. Billboard.com says the album is a solo effort from the classic rocker -- his first independent release since 1994's "Wildflowers." Petty worked on the effort with his one-time Traveling Wilburys band mate, ELO's Jeff Lynne, who served as a producer for the project. "Highway Companion" is truly a solo album -- Petty handles most of the singing and instrumentation on the disc. The little assistance he received comes from Lynne, who added keyboards, bass, and backing vocals, and Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell, who took care of lead guitar on the tracks. However, while Petty's next disc is his own, he's on the road in support of the CD with the Heartbreakers. The Highway Companions tour heads next to the Bonnaroo Music Festival in Manchester, Tennessee, where Petty and company will play a headlining set tonight. (metrosource)
