Allman Bros. 'Hit The Note' On New Album The Allman Brothers Band has set a March 18 release date for "Hittin' the Note," its first studio album in more than eight years. The set is the veteran southern rock group's first with independent label Sanctuary Records, which is releasing the 11-track album in conjunction with the band's own Peach Records imprint.Many of the songs on "Hittin' the Note" have been staples of the ABB's live show, including "Desdamona," "High Cost of Low Living," and "Rocking the Horse." The album also features a cover of the Rolling Stones' "Heart of Stone" and the 12-minute jam "Instrumental Illness." The set was recorded without original guitarist Dickey Betts, who was recently replaced by Gov't Mule founder Warren Haynes. The guitarist has been a frequent contributor to the band for much of the past decade. "We'd been having some trouble in the band with personnel," vocalist Greg Allman said in a statement. "These sorts of things just don't inspire you to write new stuff, but when Warren came back the music just came spilling out. Songwriting with Warren made it really fun again." The album was produced by Haynes and Michael Barbiero, who has worked with Gov't Mule, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Ziggy Marley, among others. In addition to Allman and Haynes, the core group features Butch Trucks and Jai Johanny Johanson on drums, Derek Trucks on lead guitar, Oteil Burbridge on bass, and Marc Quinonoes on congas and other percussion. The group will launch a summer tour in June, with its annual residency at New York's Beacon Theater set for next month. This year, the performances (March 13-18, 20-22, 25, 26, 28, 29) will be filmed for a planned DVD release. While the shows are typically career retrospectives, the band assures that a number of tracks from the new album will be featured.
