Doors Surprised By Lawsuit

The new incarnation of The Doors is surprised that drummer John Densmore is taking them to court. Densmore filed suit against keyboardist Ray Manzarek and guitarist Robbie Krieger to stop them from touring as The Doors with Ian Astbury of The Cult and Stewart Copeland of The Police.
Densmore says when singer Jim Morrison died, the remaining three agreed the band's name would not be used unless all three were involved. The new version of the band, technically called The Doors 21st Century, has issued a statement saying Densmore was repeatedly asked to join the band, but he declined. They say they trust their fans will draw their own conclusion after all the facts have been presented.
The lawsuit, filed Tuesday in Superior Court, seeks a court order prohibiting Manzarek and Krieger from calling themselves The Doors when they perform without Densmore. It also requests that Densmore, 58, be paid a share of profits from any shows that have taken place without him.
According to the band's Web site, a new Densmore group called Tribal Jazz plans to release its first album this spring. LOS ANGELES
