Dylan Film Panned At Sundance

Bob Dylanís latest foray into filmmaking is meeting with a less-than-enthusiastic initial response. Daily Variety has termed Masked And Anonymous, which stars the singer-songwriter and was co-written by Dylan and director Larry Charles, a "botch" and a "wannabe sociopolitical-musical provocation [that] comes off instead as hipster upchuck," and the trade paper reports that the film "will attract more flies than paying customers." Masked And Anonymous premiered at the recent Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, and Variety reports that after the screening, the movie's producers said the film would be re-edited. No opening date has been announced.
In the film Dylan plays a musician named Jack Fate who's released from prison to perform at a benefit concert telecast in a Latin American country. It's the first feature film directed by Charles, best-known for his work on the TV shows Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm.
In addition to Dylan, the film features John Goodman, Jessica Lange, Jeff Bridges, Angela Bassett, Luke Wilson, Bruce Dern, Ed Harris, Val Kilmer, Chris Penn, Cheech Marin, and Mickey Rourke.
