Heart Readies 2-Disc Live CD
A two-disc live document of the final show of Heartís 2002 Summer of Love tour, a hometown gig at Seattle's Paramount Theatre, will be released as "Live in Seattle" in CD and SACD formats June 10 via Epic/Legacy. The tour was the first after several years of inactivity for the veteran rock band, led by sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson. A DVD/VHS version of the show will be issued April 29 via Image Entertainment, and will be seen in June on PBS television outlets.
"Nancy and I never really killed Heart," Ann Wilson explained in a statement. "But there have been times when it was so far on the backburner that it was basically put out to pasture." During the years of downtime, each sister worked on solo recording and touring pursuits, and occasionally reunited in the hard rock driven side project the Lovemongers.
"It felt amazing to be Heart again," Nancy Wilson added. "There was something super sweet about being Heart again on a big rock stage and just turning it up really loud. It felt amazing." The Wilsons were backed on the tour by bassist Mike Inez (Alice In Chains, Ozzy Osbourne), guitarist Scott Olsen (who played on Heart's 1995 self-titled Capitol album), keyboardist Tom Kellock (Manhattan Transfer, Richard Elliot), and drummer Ben Smith, who handled similar chores in the Lovemongers.
The album will features 19 tracks, including the early rock hits "Magic Man" and "Barracuda," and later pop smashes "These Dreams" and "Alone." The show also featured four new songs -- "Sister Wild Rose," "Heaven," "Two Faces of Eve," and "Break the Rock" -- and covers of Elton John's "Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters," the Sonics' "The Witch," and Led Zeppelin's "Black Dog" and "Battle Of Evermore." None of the covers has previously been released as performed by Heart, although "The Battle of Evermore" was the title track of a four-song Lovemongers covers EP released in 1993 via Capitol.
Look for the Heart to hit the road again this summer on the Alive in America tour with Inez and Smith back in the lineup, and guitarist Gilby Clarke (Guns 'N Roses) and keyboardist Darrien Sahanajas (Brian Wilson) along for the ride. The run will kick off June 13 in Post Falls, Idaho, and is set to wrap Aug. 8 in Kelseyville, Calif. For more information, or to pre-order the DVD or VHS, visit Heart's official Web site.
