Sir Mick Celebrates 60
Sir Mick was greeted by shouts of "Happy Birthday" and "We love you" as crowds gathered outside the Duplex club in Wenceslas Square. Guests included former Czech president Vaclav Havel who befriended the Stones during their first visit to the country in 1990. Sir Mick had earlier spent the day in the city's Four Seasons Hotel, visiting the British embassy before heading to the party. Its location was a closely-guarded secret - with reports the Stones had hired out three venues, before making a last-minute decision on which one to use. Jagger, Charlie Watts, Ron Wood and Keith Richards are in Prague as part of their Forty Licks world tour, which saw them play the city's Letna Park on Sunday. Born in Dartford, Kent in 1943, Sir Mick formed the Stones with guitarist Keith Richards, who also grew up in the area, and himself turns 60 in December.
Sir Mick is the second of the band's current line-up to turn 60 - drummer Charlie Watts is 62. Bill Wyman, who played bass until 1993, is 66, while guitarist Ron Wood is 56.
An early Stones line-up played their first show at the Marquee Club in London in July 1962. Over the next two years Watts, Wyman and guitarist Brian Jones joined them, and the Stones scored the first of a series of five consecutive number ones in July 1964 with It's All Over Now.
The band went on to find international fame - with the press particularly fascinated by Sir Mick's complex private life, ever since British papers asked in the early 1960s, "would you let your daughter marry a Rolling Stone?".
The Stones' tour comes to the UK and Ireland in August, with dates in London, Dublin, Manchester and Glasgow, including a club date at London's Astoria venue. (bbcnews.co.uk)
