Clapton Honored By The Queen

Guitar legend Eric Clapton has become the latest British rocker to win recognition from Queen Elizabeth in the annual New Year's honors list. The Grammy-winning musician was named a Commander of the British Empire (CBE), one of Britain's highest honors, albeit ranking in precedence below the knighthoods enjoyed by Sir Paul McCartney, Sir Elton John and Sir Mick Jagger. Ray Davies, frontman for the sixties band the Kinks, also won a CBE, as did director Stephen Daldry, whose movie "The Hours" won an Oscar for Nicole Kidman. Veteran actress Joan Plowright is now Dame Joan, the female equivalent of a knighthood. LONDON (Reuters)
