Rod Stewart Is "Human"

Rod Stewart will make his Atlantic Records debut with the release of Human on February 6th. The album will be Stewart's first release since 1998's When We Were Young, which featured his cover of Oasis' "Cigarettes and Alcohol." The first single, "I Can't Deny," which was produced by Rick Nowels (Madonna, the Corrs, Dido), has already hit radio stations and VH1. Among the other tunes on Human are Macy Gray's "Smitten," Curtis Mayfield's "It Was Love That We Needed" and the Mavericks' "To Be With You." Stewart's production team for the album includes Mick Taylor and Brian Rawling (who worked on Cher's "Believe"), Christopher Neil (Celine Dion) and Karl Gordon (All Saints). Human also features some guest fretwork from guitarists Mark Knopfler and Slash. "I'm very pleased with this record because all the songs gel so well together," Stewart said in a statement. "This is a very soulful album, because it does lean towards R&B -- though in a very modern way." STEVE FLORIO (rollingstone.com)
