The Pretenders Set Tour Dates

The Pretenders will tour North America this winter in support of Loose Screw, their just-released eighth studio album, beginning January 22nd in Jacksonville, Florida. The outing is now scheduled to run through a two-night stand in Seattle on March 8th and 9th.
Chrissie Hynde had planned to take actor Russell Crowe's Thirty Odd Foot of Grunt -- the Pretenders' Artemis labelmates -- out to support on the circuit. While her band was in the midst of a handful of dates opening for the Rolling Stones this fall, she told Rolling Stone, "I heard [TOFOG's] record the other day and I said, 'That's f---ing great! Let's take them on tour.'" But Crowe, after a widely reported fight in a London nightclub last week, withdrew from the opening spot in favor of a summer vacation at his home in Australia.
Loose Screw, the Pretenders' first album for Artemis, sees the band explore its early dancehall influences more explicitly than ever. "I was very determined this time to give a more reggae feel," Hynde said. "I always thought reggae was the future. Being from Ohio, I never heard it until I moved to England. As soon as I heard it, it really rocked my world, as they say. I loved the rhythms, and its spiritual message."
