Volunteers Needed For EISNER Heart Study      (Health and Safety)
Ongoing Event, Ends 12/30/2003

Heart disease is the single largest killer of men and women in the U.S. If you have high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes, or if you smoke - you may be at an increased risk for heart disease.

Researchers at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center are conducting an important clinical trial called the EISNER Heart Study. Funded by The Eisner Foundation, this study investigates whether cardiac imaging identifies those at risk for heart attacks and strokes.

If you have no know history of heart disease, are a man between the ages of 45 and 80, or are a woman between 55 and 80, you may be eligible to participate in this 4-year study. During this time, participants fill out questionnaires, undergo a short physical exam, have cholesterol screening, receive one or two coronary calcium scans using Electron Beam CT, and are given a risk factor consultation. All testing is at no cost.

 Host Familes Needed      (Educational)
Ongoing Event, Ends 12/31/2003

Pacific Intercultural Exchange, a non-profit educational organization, is looking for 20 caring California families to host high school students from various countries for the semester. The students are 15 - 18 years of age and will begin arriving in January to spend the upcoming semester with a caring family while attending your local high school.

There is no such thing as a typical host family! Whether you are a single parent, retired, have small children, teens or no children, you can have a great experience hosting an international teen!

The students are pre-screened, speak English and are looking forward to learning about our culture while teaching you about their culture and country. They have medical insurance and their own spending money to cover such things as clothing, school supplies and entertainment. Host families are not paid, but may be able to claim a $50.00 per month charitable contribution on their income tax.

All that these students require is a bed, meals and a caring family to share their 6 month stay with in our beautiful country. Help them learn a new meaning of "Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness" by giving them the opportunity to experience our Natural Rights and Freedom.

Please help Pacific Intercultural Exchange make the dreams of these young teens come true, with the opportunity to live and study in our country, and possibly aide in making a difference in their future.

Bring the world to your doorstep! For more information please contact Gloria at 1-888-823-7713 or Mary Ann at 1-888-816-8636.
